Bio
Marie Byrd Sproul is a freelance theatre director. Her work tends to focus on social justice issues and elevating the voices of women.
Marie has worked as an Associate Director and an Assistant Director to some fantastic artists. These credits include collaborations with directors Aaron Posner(Holmes for the Holidays at Cleveland Playhouse, Conference of the Birds at The Folger Theatre, and The Last Five Years at Signature Theatre), KJ Sanchez(ReEntry at Centerstage, Roundhouse Theatre & The Annenberg Performing Arts Center), Gavin Witt(Twelfth Night at Centerstage) and Jeremy Cohen(Let There Be Love at Centerstage).
In 2006 she started the theatre company, OnStage, with Maureen Rogers and Sarah Kendrick in Catonsville, MD. During her time as Artistic Director of the company, she directed Uh-Oh, Here Comes Christmas, The Ash Girl and Heaven Can Wait.
Her direction of Salvation Road at the DC Capital Fringe 2015 Festival garnered several honors including, Favorite Show of the Fringe, Favorite Drama and Favorite Ensemble.
She recently directed an 8 city National Tour of a new play commissioned by Advocates for Youth, Remarkably Normal by Jessi Blue Gormezano.
Marie is also a founding member and Associate Director of Ally Theatre Company. A company that produces theatre designed to engage audiences through acknowledging and confronting systemic oppression in America.
